Now, let me break down my top picks for young gamers, like my 9-year-old son. The list is a mix of things we already have and items I know he’d enjoy.
This is the must-have accessory for any Minecraft player. Gameband is a wearable USB-style bracelet that lets you take your Minecraft worlds with you and play anytime, anywhere on any computer. It has a Minecraft launcher included with the software, which means my kids can plug it into any computers and play.
Gameband also has a backup service that saves your Minecraft worlds to the cloud, so you’re never at risk of losing them, even if your computer crashes. Another cool feature is the Gameband’s LED display, which includes a watch, calendar and customizable animations so kids can really let their creativity and personalities shine. The LED display is powered by an internal battery, and it charges every time you plug Gameband into your computer. Gameband comes preloaded with the PixelFurnace app that kids can use to create their own custom animations, which you can see in action here.
Gameband offers two versions — Redstone and Diamond — in sizes small and large.
2) 3D Pen
My gamer loves building, drawing and creating, so this 3D pen is right up his alley. The pen is essentially a 3D printer you can hold in your hands. You can create 3D models of anything you draw in the air. How cool is that?
3) My Life as a Gamer book
This is a a great read for kids who love the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Origami Yoda and Captain Underpants series. In this book, the main character gets the chance of a lifetime to participate in a gaming company focus group and to test out a new video game.
You may remember the Makey Makey from my son’s Star War’s birthday party when we used it to create a musical lightsaber battle pad. With the Makey Makey, you can make a banana piano or turn a piece of aluminum foil into a video game controller using the included circuit board, wires and alligator clips. The possibilities are as limitless as your imagination.
This throwback tee pays homage to everyone’s favorite 8-bit ape! Adult and youth sizes are available.
My tech-savvy son loves using my phone and computer to make stop-motion movies. This kit simplifies the process.
With this kit, kids learn to make their own Minecraft stop-motion animations using the figures, scenery and the free mobile app that comes with it.
7) Gaming Chair
Gamers need a place to chillax and play, and this chair lets them do in comfort and style. The gaming chair has two built-in speakers with volume control and headphone jacks, and it also folds up for convenient storage.
It’s also a comfy spot to read and draw.
Gamers don’t die; they respawn. I think that’s the gamer’s creed! These dog tags can be worn as a necklace or used as a keychain or zipper pull on a jacket or backpack.
When you’re a gamer, you want the world to know it! I know kids hate getting clothes for Christmas, but who could hate a shirt that proclaims that you’re an “Epic Gamer“? Score one for the parents!
Sure, you could use the keybaord that came with your computer. But how lame is that? This tricked-out mouse and keyboard set features an ergonomic design and backlit keys and buttons, available in three different color options. My kid saw it and immediately said, “I want that!”
Minecraft fans will love this light-up diamond ore cube that glows when you tap it. It’s a cool accessory for a desk or nightstand.
13) 8-Bit Glasses
These kid-sized 8-bit glasses frame are a fun novelty gift — the perfect stocking stuffer. They’re very hipster geek chic in black, but they also come in a variety of color combinations that remind me just a little too much of the styles we used to wear in the 80s!
Gamers will love these removable vinyl game controller wall decals. They’re great for a tween or teen’s bedroom, the family media room or even a mancave. They come in a variety of colors and sizes.
I think every kid dreams of setting a Guinness World Record. My son spent hours reading the regular
The 2016 edition has a separate Minecraft section, showcasing construction records, in-game tips and other blocky goodness.
16) Tetris Cushions
These Tetris cushions take me back! These plush pillows are available in all five Tetris shapes, so you could conceivably play a live-action game!
Or just use them as pillows while you kick back and play a marathon session of Tetris! Level up!
I hope these gift ideas have helped you find something special, fun and cool for the young gamer on your list.
