President Trump tweeted Sunday: "Christians in the Middle-East have been executed in large numbers. We cannot allow this horror to continue!"
Christians in the Middle-East have been executed in large numbers. We cannot allow this horror to continue!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 29, 2017
His tweet comes after suggesting in a television interview that persecuted Christians seeking asylum in the United States will be given priority when they apply for refugee status.
"We are going to help them. They've been horribly treated," Trump told the Christian Broadcasting Network in a Sunday interview.
"Do you know if you were a Christian in Syria it was impossible, and the reason that was so unfair — everybody was persecuted in all fairness — but they were chopping off the heads of everybody, but more so the Christians," Trump told CBN's David Brody.
Upon being asked if he sees persecuted Christians "as kind of a priority" when it comes to granting non-citizens refugee status, Trump told Brady: "Yes."
Trump on Friday announced an executive order that temporarily restricts immigration from a number of Muslim-majority countries, including Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen for 90 days. The order also suspended the flow of Syrian refugees into the country.
