• Little Bear Fire, July 4, 2012: Lincoln National Forest, 44,330 acres, 242 homes and 10 outbuildings destroyed, lightning caused.

• Whitewater-Baldy Complex Fire, May 9, 2012: Gila National Forest, 289,478 acres, largest in state history, lightning caused.

• Las Conchas Fire, June 26, 2011: Santa Fe National Forest, 159,293 acres, 63 homes destroyed, caused by tree falling on power line.

• Cerro Grande Fire, Bandelier National Monument: May 10, 2000, 47,650 acres, 18,000 evacuated, more than 400 homes destroyed, high winds caused a prescribed burn to get out of control.
