“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” was mostly shot in the U.S., and J.K. Rowling even created a rich backstory for witches in America — from the magical school Ilvermorny to the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), which is its counterpart for the Ministry of Magic.

However, “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” was mostly shot in Paris. This is what executive producer David Heyman told Entertainment Weekly about the setting of the upcoming film.

“[The film] almost entirely takes place in Paris,” Heyman said. “We delve deeper into [J.K. Rowling’s] wizarding world — we’re in Paris, we’re in London and New York — the world is expanding.”

“As you can tell from the [cast photo], we’re following quite a few characters. The new film has a very different feel than the first. It’s got a thriller quality. And it’s also a story about love and passion and all its forms — paternal, romantic, political. And it’s just a thrilling and very fun adventure,” he continued. “We took all we’ve learned from one and just expanded that and created a richer, deeper and more thrilling film which I’m excited to be a part of.”

One of the most exciting things about the upcoming film is having Jude Law play the young Albus Dumbledore. “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life,” director David Yates said in a statement.

Law will be shooting several scenes with Johnny Depp who plays the villain Gellert Grindelwald, Dumbledore’s former best friend turned nemesis.

However, a lot of people are unhappy with the casting of Depp since he was accused by his ex-wife, Amber Heard, of domestic abuse. Fans have requested that Grindelwald be recast, but Warner Bros. has yet to make a statement regarding the public furor.
