Microsoft's E3 2012 Conference

After the SHOCK announcement of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, today is obviously the day for surprising news. Step forward Microsoft’s Mike Nichols, corporate VP and chief marketing officer of Xbox, who has sensationally announced that Microsoft will be at E3 2018 this year. I mean, who’d have thought it.

In further revelatory news, Microsoft has said this year will be its “Biggest E3 Showing Ever”. Wonders truly never cease. In fact, I’m pretty sure I wrote that exact claim last year, and the year before that, and the year before that even. This time around there is a little more substance to these claims though, with Microsoft revealing it’ll be taking over the Microsoft Theatre this year, just over the road from the Los Angeles Convention Centre (LACC) that plays host to E3.

“Since Xbox made its first appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in 2000, Xbox has had a major presence at the show, delivering exclusive and powerful ways to let fans in on what we’re up to, and 2018 will be no different,” says Nicholls.

“In fact, it will be our biggest showing ever. These changes – expanding our presence, multiple venues, taking over the Microsoft Theater – give us the opportunity to bring together a variety of Xbox experiences into one primary location and, most importantly, let fans in on what we’re up to in 2018 and beyond in a fresh new way.”

The actual Xbox E3 2018 Briefing itself will be taking place on Sunday, June 10th, at 1pm PT, but there’ll also be Xbox FanFest activities, an opportunity for hands-on demos for those attending, and other goodies.

Now it’s just time to tick off the days until E3 and ponder what Microsoft could have in store for us next. By the time E3 rolls around, all three of Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3 should be out, or in the case of the latter, nearly out, so there’s a blank slate that Microsoft sorely needs to address. There have been whisperings of a Gears of War spin-off, possibly a Halo RPG, the return of Fable, and of course, it’s almost certain that Forza Horizon 4 will race into view.

What are you hoping to see announced at Microsoft’s biggest E3 yet? What are the major holes in its first-party lineup that you think need filling? Be sure to share your thoughts below!
