Describe job: I cover government, politics, transportation and anything an editor might throw my way.
Education: Graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona, Iowa, and then graduated in 1988 from Brown Institute, a technical school for radio and broadcast journalism in Minneapolis.
Work Experience: I worked in news/talk radio for more than 20 years at various radio stations in Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York and New Jersey, and produced a national radio talk show before switching to print.
After freelancing for a few papers for a short time, the Pocono Record hired me as a staff reporter. I worked there for 10 years, and was promoted to managing editor, then executive editor. But I wanted to be unchained from the editor's desk and work as a reporter again. I'm thrilled to do it at the Reading Eagle.
Outside interests: I enjoy traveling, hiking, beading and recently have taken up knitting.
Favorites: I read a lot of nonfiction like "Rescue Warriors: The U.S. Coast Guard, America's Forgotten Heroes," and the Bible. There is a special place in my heart for Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the "Little House" books, the first series I completed as a child. I have walked in her footsteps in Walnut Grove, Minn., the setting of "Little House on the Prairie," and Pepin, Wis., the setting for "Little House in the Big Woods."
On Netflix, I'm watching "The Crown," "Riverdale" and impatiently waiting for the rest of the "Doc Martin" series.
You might not know: I once lost a job at a news/talk/polka radio station because I didn't know how to play the tuba for the station's polka band. Despite this emotional scar, I am still compelled to tap a toe to "The Pennsylvania Polka."
