Liberty's Hilliard Named All State First Team For Second Year In 2011

A weekly look back at sports in the Lehigh Valley, in anniversaries of multiples of five years.

APRIL 4

2011 — Liberty senior Darrun Hilliard is named a selection on the state Class 4A basketball's first team. Hilliard becomes the first area player since Salisbury's Antoine Hubbard (1992-93) to earn consecutive first-team honors. Central Catholic's Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman (3A second team), Allen's Jalen Cannon (4A second team), and Pocono Mountain West's Tynell Fortune (4A third team) are also named in the yearly PIAA basketball honors.

1996 — With the help of a 9-1 victory by Bethlehem Catholic graduate Pat Santoro over Igor Kaupeev, the U.S. beats Russia 23-17 in a pre-Olympic wrestling match before 3,133 fans at Stabler Arena.
