Kenya Plastic Bag Ban Comes Into Force After Years Of Delays

Kenya's plastic bag ban caught the attention of environment ministers from across the world during a session of the UN Environment Assembly.

Environment experts from all over the world on Saturday said they were thrilled by the move even as Nema said it will not turn back on the ban.

NEMA director general Geoffrey Wahungu said it took the country 15 years to reach an agreement with manufacturers on the prohibited packaging material.

The ban became effective through a six-month gazette notice published by Environment CS Judi Wakhungu on February 27.
